What is a Volkswagen?
The history of Volkswagen
On May, 28, 1937, the German German government launched their own automotive manufacturing company, Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH. During this time, the German government was controlled by Adolf Hitler and a part of the Nazi party. In the same year of establishment, they chose to change their name to Volkswagenwerk, or “The People’s Car Company.”
Hitler was making these vehicles to be affordable yet still fast, German vehicles. At the time, this vehicle was sold for 140 dollars, in our time, it would calculate to about 1,000 dollars. For design assistance, Hitler called Ferdinand Porsche in hopes to release this vehicle across Germany. The first time this vehicle was showcased was in 1939 at the Berlin Motor Show.
After the first showcasing, world war two began which forced Volkswagen to stop production. After the war, the Volkswagen factory was in ruins. The company’s allies and associates helped to rebuild the company and continue production. Volkswagen wouldn’t sell as many cars in the united states compared to other parts, of the world because of their origins.
