What is an auto mechanic?
Auto mechanics are people who repair and service cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, and EVs. Mechanics have a wide range of tasks and duties. Among this laundry list, is dirty, grimy, and greasy work.
The modern mechanic usually only works on a certain kind of vehicle at a local dealership. Others work at independent shops and work on multiple types of cars or trucks.
Body Shops do their own kind of mechanic work. They fix dents, paint, and collision damages from roadside accidents. These types of techs are their own breed. Instead of diagnostic and un-bolting things, their main goal is to make your car look nice. Someone has to fix body damage, and these body guys usually aren’t technically called mechanics.
You also have your lower-level technician. He could be an oil changer, tire tech, or inspection mechanic. Usually, these types of works are newer to the industry. Sometimes an older or injured mechanic takes on these tasks as well.
Specialty mechanics work on a certain area of the vehicle. Transmission experts or air conditioning specialists for example.
Anything you can un-bolt on an automobile, there is some sort of mechanic that can replace it out there somewhere.

How do you become a mechanic?
To become a good mechanic you have to accomplish a few things first. First, you need a love for cars! Obviously, you have to love cars to want to be a mechanic! Step 2, you need a high school diploma. Some high schools even offer automotive programs! Then, You’ll need training.
In Chico, Butte college offers an awesome automotive training program! Once you have been trained, you need to become at least entry-level certified. Then, follow through with an Apprenticeship or Internship. Last, get hired as a mechanic!
To enter the Honda PACT program that Butte College offers, you need to have a counseling session with a PACT coordinator. Butte also offers a Subaru program, a ford program, a Diesel program, and more!

What do you mechanics do?
A service — A service includes: getting your oil changed, having a tire rotation, checking your tire pressure, and or having your tires replaced. All of these things should be done regularly!
B service — B service is regular maintenance that comes every 7,500 miles.
Alignment — Cars need there alignment to be done every two to three years. Alignment makes your cars tires aligned properly so that they hit the road at the correct angle. This makes you different straight and safe.
Transmission service — You need transmission service every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Transmission service is basically a transmission fluid exchange. We first, drain your old transmission fluid, then we fill you car back up with new, clean Transmission fluid.
Timing Belt — Your car needs a new timing belt every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. Your timing belt controls parts of your engine. Your engine is key in your car operation. So, it is really important to have our timing belt changed when it is supposed to be.
Engine light — When your check engine light comes on, you must have it diagnosed as soon as possible. Your engine is key to your cars operation.
Tune up — Tune up is a replacement of wire, plugs, and any other thing that make up your car ‘s ignition system.
