A/C Compressor Oil Is Essential!
Ooooeee, it's hotter than ever outside which means everyone and everything is working hotter than ever too. Engines especially are being overworked these days. They create a lot of friction, and friction creates heat, compounding the issue further. If you're not careful in weather like this, it's easy to send an engine into overheating which can possibly damage it permanently. Don't let this happen.
So, when you want to reduce friction and reduce heat, what do you use? Oil. Now more than ever, you should pay attention to oil levels in your vehicle. You already know about motor engine oil, but did you know your A/C compressor engine needs not just refrigerant, but A/C compressor oil too? But what do A/C compressor oils do, and what are some additional benefits to choosing a quality oil when doing a compressor recharge?
Compressor Oils Run Smooth
Oils are most often used as lubrication, to keep two separate parts from sticking to each other when they come in contact. This principle applies to cooking food (ie oiling a pan for frying), and it applies to the physical contact between machine and engine parts too. The air conditioner compressor is an engine just like your motor engine, and it involves a number of parts in constant motion in order to circulate refrigerant from condenser to the evaporator in order to cool the cabin of your vehicle. Considering the original intent of the A/C system is to keep things cool, you can see how it might be counterintuitive if the cooling system itself runs hotter than it should.
If you’re not sure what compressor oil you need, first check the owner’s manual, as always. Additionally, you can usually find that info under the hood of your vehicle along with other critical engine statistics.
Finally, if no luck still, you can use this link to find the right compressor oil for the kind of compressor engine you have (presuming you know the compressor engine type):
Air Conditioner Compressor Oil Perks
Choosing the right compressor oil can save a lot of hassle in the long run. Like most products, some oils do the job, but others do the job well. It’s always best to choose the one that does a good job than just a good-enough job, trust us. Some notable benefits of good AC compressor oils include:
Rubber rejuvenators that restore rubber seals in the system
Strengthens seals at joints and valves by creating viscous barrier
Improves performance by reducing minor refrigerant compression failures due to leaks
Need A/C Compressor Service?
Diagnosing and completing AC compressor service can be difficult and time consuming without the right tools and a refrigerant reclaim machine like the one we have in our shop.
If you need help, you can bring your car or truck into Tedious Repairs and we’ll be glad to give you a hand replacing A/C compressor oil, or repairing any other A/C engine issues you might have.
